What is something unique about your farm?

My mother, Mary Sorbello, started Sorbello Girls Farm Market in 1961 out of necessity to support her family after a particularly tough year for her husband’s farm. She would take the extra produce from his farm and other farmers in the area, often going out in the field and harvesting herself, and sell whatever she could fit on her flatbed to local customers, right on our front lawn. What was once just a beach umbrella and a folding table has transformed into a thriving standalone market, an important community food source, and even the inspiration for the hit song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”.

What is your favorite thing to grow?

Basil! On any given summer day, you are likely to find Mom out in the field at 89 years old, picking and trimming basil to sell in ready-made pouches for a variety of dishes.

What is your favorite recipe or cooking technique using Jersey Fresh?

Zucchini Bread. My mom published a cookbook titled “101 Ways To Cook Zucchini”, and her zucchini bread was always a fan-favorite.
